TYPES OF KNIFE BLADES

Custom Damascus Folding knives
The knife blade we see is much longer than what is visible to the eye. The "tang" is a continuation of the material of the blade that extends into the handle of the knife. The blade of the knife and the silk are of the same composition and the length of the silk can usually give the user an idea of the strength of the knife. There are a number of pitch constructions like tang or tang, encapsulated or full tangent, hidden tangent, rat-rail or mouse, and so on. Each style of the tang is constructed differently and provides varied strengths and uses.

For hunting knife blades, there are three main types: solid silk, partial silk, and silk. There are blades of hunting knives which are called full silk but which are technically extended because the silk extends beyond the handle of the handle which is usually used as a pommel. Hunting knives such as Ka-Bar Becker BK2 and Fallkniven H1 are technical stretchers. Examples of real solid silk hunting knives include the Schrader Old Timer 1650T Fixed Blade and Schrader Knives SCHF9. The Schrader Knives SCHF9 has a pommel but it does not extend beyond the handle itself making it a full tang instead of an extended one.
FULL TANG
The Full Tang knife blades have the steel blade that extends to the end of the handle. This type of construction is considered the strongest type of hunting knife because the force of the blade is worn on the handle. Even if the handle is plastic or simple, the resistance of the knife blade is not compromised. The weight of full silk hunting knives is usually heavier than partial silk, but not excessively. The reliability of full tang hunting knives more than offsets the increase in weight as much as most hunters. Examples like the Schrader Old Timer 1650T is a great knife blade especially for medium to large skinning.
PARTIAL TANG
The partial Tang knife blades are either half or three quarters which describe how far the tang extends into the handle. Partial tail knife blades are generally used for reduced force application because of the inherited weakness of their design. Partial knife blades are considerably lower than full-bladed knife blades. There are good examples of partial knife blades such as Bench made Osborne 585 Mini-Barrage and Buck 110 which are both folding knives, but are very good knives despite their partial construction.
MOUSE TANG

The blades of Mouse Tang knives are mostly decorative because they do not support the abuse that the actual use brings. As far as I know, there are no real hunting knives with a mouse silk construction. The blades of mouse knives are technically mostly full with a considerable decrease in the material. This is what creates a weak knife blade. When a mouse silk knife blade breaks, it is often at the end of the handle instead of the blade.
